The retail case video shows the design details of the iPhone 16 from all directions, including a vertical camera layout and capture button

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 16 lineup is set to be a significant upgrade over current models, and part of the reason is its design and performance capabilities. We’re almost three months away from the launch of the flagship models, and details about the design and feature set continue to trickle out. The iPhone 16 is speculated to come with a new vertical camera setup, buttons and more. Visual details of the device are highlighted in a new video of the retail case, which shows the standard dimensions of the iPhone 16 from all sides, giving you a clear idea of what to expect.

iPhone 16 design details highlighted in new retail case video, showing action and capture button

The current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have a diagonal layout for the camera sensors on the back, and it looks like the company is looking to go back to its older format. As you can see in the video embedded below (via IceUniverse ), Apple is looking to switch to a vertical camera layout on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, which resembles the iPhone X but with larger sensors. It can be seen that the device will have a larger camera housing with the microphone located inside the plateau. Unlike the ‘Pro’ models, the flash module will be installed out of the box.

Apart from the camera layout, the retail box also shows a cutout below the Power or Side button. We believe the cutout will be used for the rumored Capture button, which is designed to respond to the device’s video capture capabilities. Since the button will be capacitive, it makes sense to leave a cutout instead of a fully functional mechanical button. The Capture button will be available on all four iPhone 16 models, as Apple wants users to create more Space Videos for Vision Pro.

In addition, the retail checkout video also shows another button above the volume buttons, eliminating the mute switch. Apple will probably replace the Mute switch on the iPhone 16 with an Action Button, similar to the one found on the iPhone 15 Pro models. It will potentially put all the controls like the ‘Pro’ models, including the new ones added in iOS 18.

Design aside, the iPhone 16 will also come with an upgraded A18 chip, with a powerful Neural Engine to handle Apple’s new Intelligence features coming later this year with iOS 18. As mentioned, we’re still three months away from launch, and the company may see fit to have different plans for the device, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt.
